Luxury Living With Skyline Views + Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Flow

Why This San Diego Home Needed a Full Renovation

When function and form come together with intention, the results speak for themselves.

San Diego, CA | Completed 2024 | Timeline: 8 Months

This Del Cerro home underwent a full kitchen addition and comprehensive first-floor renovation led by the Silver Strand Construction team. The project brought not only structural transformation, but also timeless, high-end finishes that reflect a California-casual elegance.

Expanding the Kitchen with Smart Layouts and Luxe Materials

Our clients wanted more space, more storage, and better flow. We started by expanding the kitchen with a new slab foundation, giving us room to completely rethink the layout. The new kitchen now features:

  • Custom Mantra Omni Snow cabinetry with a bright white shaker profile

  • Quartz countertops throughout the perimeter, island, and dry bar

  • A fully integrated appliance garage, wine fridge, and built-in paneled dishwasher

  • Custom range hood with handcrafted oak floating shelves

  • LED undercabinet lighting and ambient recessed cans

Structural Changes That Opened Up the Entire Floorplan

To support the open-concept layout, we installed new steel beams and created framed openings that made room for better flow from the kitchen through the dining, living, and hallway spaces. A custom mild steel stair rail anchors the visual connection between floors and adds a subtle industrial edge.

We also relocated and reframed several interior transitions, including:

  • Pocket door installations

  • New stairwell access

  • Open hallway views

Custom Millwork + Built-In Features Throughout the Home

This wasn’t just about more space—it was about crafting something that felt intentional and high-end. We brought in beautiful finish work throughout, including:

  • A new fireplace surround in hand-troweled Santa Barbara stucco

  • Feature wall behind the staircase an architectural focal point

  • Designer tile at the backsplash and bathroom walls

  • A dry bar with custom shelves that matches the kitchen cabinetry

From Fireplaces to Flooring: Details That Elevate the Design

Every room received attention to detail—baseboards, crown molding, slab shelves, and floating vanities all played a part in elevating the home’s overall feel. The fireplace, previously outdated, became a stunning focal point with its smooth stucco finish and custom wood mantel.

Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC Upgrades You Can’t See—but Feel

We coordinated full mechanical, plumbing, and electrical upgrades to support the expanded footprint:

  • HVAC realignment

  • Andersen window packages

  • Fleetwood patio door relocation

  • New electrical runs for recessed and specialty lighting

  • Plumbing relocation including bar sink, laundry, and Sloan valve

A Kitchen That Works as Beautifully as It Looks

We believe that remodels should do more than just refresh—they should restore usability and redefine how a space lives. In this case, every square foot was reimagined to serve a purpose. Thoughtful layouts, quality materials, and precision execution came together to create a home that now lives up to its views.

Design Philosophy

This project is a great example of how we approach whole-home renovation: not just upgrading finishes, but truly improving the way the home functions. By expanding the kitchen, reconfiguring walls, and integrating custom millwork throughout, we delivered a seamless flow from old to new.

Every detail—from the steel stair rail to the Cat Face stucco finish—was selected with intention, bringing cohesion to a once-disconnected floor plan.
